It Can be Hard to Change Our Conditioning. Why PBL?

Students at High Tech High come from all walks of life and different neighborhoods in San Diego, California. A public high school run on a lottery system, applicants are chosen at random to participate in the four-year program. From Day 1, students and parents alike find it hard to “relax” into the structure of the school. They have been conditioned to specific ways of learning and High Tech High feels strange and incorrect. It doesn’t take long to see the changes and just what this amazing project based school is actually teaching, skills that will see them through life: communication, connection, collaboration, and more.
